The Peach tree is native of Northwestern China and is still the leading producer of peaches contributing over half of the worlds peach crop.  Brought to North America by Spanish explorers in the 16th century and have been grown in Georgia ever since, making it known as the "Peach State" even though California is now a significant contributor to the peach crop in the US.
